Building Biostatistics Capacity in Developing Countries

Biostatistics plays a major role in shaping and providing scientific information for vital decision making in health planning, clinical and public health researches and beyond. Modern decision making, be it for an individual patient, hospitals, clusters of people or facilities, countries, regions are mostly based on Biostatistical methods so as to improve the timeliness, accuracy, quality, and generalizability of information and decisions. However, the quality of Biostatistical training in developing countries is abysmally low. This session is chaired and organized by Dr. Olawale Awe.

This plenary session contains three important talks about developing Biostatistics in Developing Countries:

Talk 1: "Biostatistical requirements in Health Sciences Research; training and collaboration needs”- Professor F. J. Owotade (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria)

Talk 2: “Biostatistics: Challenges and Potentials in Africa.”- Professor Egwin Evans- Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State Nigeria

Talk 3: “Advancing Biostatistics Capacity from Undergraduate to PhD level - sharing collaborative experiences from Stellenbosch University to Sub-Saharan Africa”
